When an old Victorian department store closed down after 150 years in our town a while ago, I was lucky enough to purchase their entire stock of tapestry yarn.
So many amazing colours, one could almost build a rainbow!
However, as beautiful as these vibrant hues are, they are a tad bright for my liking and so I took the plunge and dipped them in some dye.
Such a rewarding past time and really rather addictive (in the process I ended up with almost an entire new wardrobe of green clothing!).
Lucy got very into it...
I used RIT liquid dye in taupe colour. It's such a useful shade and dulls any bright colours, along with Dylon's beige shade.
A most satisfying thing to do...
I also used a Dylon dark green. It was sold as washing machine dye but I always try and hand dye when I can.... ended up with a load of tie dyed clothing the other week when I overloaded the washing machine so won't make that mistake again.
Silly me took the rubber gloves off half way through.... never a good decision!
Oh but the effort was worth it.... much more pleasing to the eye... Oh sigh! as I spread them out over the lawn to dry....
Had a little helper too.... meet Tiberius Maximus Olympus (although because he didn't grow quite as large as we had anticipated, my Mother feels he should be named 'Upper Middlemus' rather that Maximus! He's a cross between a Bengal and a Maine Coon, think he's more in touch with his Bengal side but does wrestle with both his sides.
I gave him a surprise ending in this little video...
So then for the less pleasing task of unraveling it all...
Fortunately Wimbledon was on this week so it was a good excuse to sit down and multi task with a second little helper, Lucy who was getting more excited by the minute...
I write this still with blue hands!
